Frieze Falls & The Michigan Daily Gets a Face-Lift Ann Arbor, with pics! ![]() I posted some pics of the Frieze building that I took when I was in A2 over Easter. If you want to know more, the University maintains this blog about the building. For almost constant updates of the demolition and construction, try this flickr search. Using that search, I found some great shots. I like this cornerstone pic, which they're going to keep when the new dorm and classroom building goes up. This too is a great pic. Sad to see the old high school go down, but I think it will be an improvement. I had classes in there. The ventilation was bad. People used to pass out from lack of air. The ceilings were at least 20 feet high. And as you can see used the pics, there was a good five feet above the lowered ceilings in each of the rooms. The Frieze building was pretty, but the new building will be more functional. I also toured the newly renovated Student Publications Building, where I used to work as a writer and editor at the Michigan Daily. The work crew didn't seem to mind that I looked around. I didn't take pics, but here's a video of the SPB now courtesy of Daily alumnus Michael Grass. I'd never seen the SPB so clean. No more bat cave. No more back staircase. But the layout makes sense and was a nice mix of University modern and the building's ornate past. Archives
